Many Canadian families are still of the ‘traditional’ kind but, according to Statistics Canada (StatsCan), their numbers are declining while those for blended families are growing. The 2011 Census[1] included stepfamilies (StatsCan’s term for blended families) for the first time, and according to the Census stepfamilies now represent about one in eight families with children.
