The Danforth’s Allure Body Bar (735 Danforth Ave.) wants you to bare it all as it takes the scare out of waxing with its quick and painless Quickzilians and Manzilians.

Facing the ‘manscaping’ taboo head on, Allure Body Bar has created a shame-free environment even men feel comfortable in. Much like going to a barber shop, men are able to sit back and enjoy a laugh as their grooming needs are taken care of. With expertise in the Manzilian, men can clean up and maintain for their own personal hygiene reasons or as a treat for their significant other. It is perfect for athletes needing a smooth finish or for those who simply do not like excessive body hair.

Established by the Quickzilian Guru Alaa Abdullah under a year ago, Allure Body Bar has quickly become the neighbourhood’s go-to wax and beauty spot. As a trained and qualified aesthetician, Alaa has really mastered the Brazilian wax technique. She knows how to make her clients entirely comfortable, adding to the beauty bar’s already relaxing atmosphere.

Allure Body Bar takes all precautions necessary to maintain the highest level of cleanliness. Respecting that their clients trust them with their most private parts, they ensure wax pots are never double dipped, fresh towels are provided in every room and gloves are worn during every service.

Also found at Allure Body Bar is PFB VANISH, a roll-on waxing aftercare product that helps prevent and aid in the relief of ingrown hairs, as well as No-Scream Cream, a topical anethetic that eases the discomfort of waxing; perfect for the bikini area, lip, eyebrows, underarms and legs.

AlaaName: Ala’a Abbassi

Occupation: Co-founder and Creative Director of Allure BODY BAR

Education: Aesthetics, Hairstyling and Makeup Artistry

How did you get started on your current career track?

I’ve been an aesthetician for over 10 years now. Even though I’m a makeup artist and a hairstylist by trade, I’ve always been drawn to the art of waxing, as I like to call it. From the beginning I knew my waxing technique was different than what was already available. My special and unique technique that made the Brazilian wax as painless and as fast as possible needed to be shared with Toronto and that’s where the idea for Allure Body Bar came from. Usually the first reaction that people have to getting a wax done is “ouch!”, but we always make our clients as relaxed as possible so that the pain is minimal. I wanted Allure Body Bar to be a fun and inviting atmosphere that isn’t so serious or scary. Waxing does not need to be scary if it’s done by professionals. My idea was to make it feel safe and add a twist of humour to the whole situation while still educating clients about the services.

What gives you the most satisfaction in what you do?

Every day is filled with our amazing clients, some of them are new and many of them are our loyal clients that we have been seeing now for over two years. The satisfaction comes for me personally from seeing clients leave happy and satisfied. Waxing is not like a facial treatment or getting your nails done. We have to be alert at all times and make sure our clients are relieved and smiling when we are done. Hearing positive feedback from clients makes my day go by so fast. A lot of our clients come from outside the GTA and that it is a compliment to me and my business that people drive out of their way just to come see us.

What motivates or inspires you in your work?

There are many different things that keep me going but the most important is my son. I want to be a good positive role model for him and that’s what motivates me each morning to make every day better than the last one. Each day has its own challenges at work but that’s what keeps it interesting. I love surprises and challenges.

AlaaandFrankDo you have a personal work philosophy?

When Allure Body Bar opened, my work philosophy was to be true to my vision and who I am. I believe in doing what you love to do. I wake up every morning excited to get my day started. It can be easy to get caught up and lose your focus in a fast-paced lifestyle but I make sure to remind myself that this is not a race and to enjoy each moment in the present.

If you weren’t doing this, what could you see yourself doing?

I can easily see myself being an interior designer. I love working with colours and I like to think outside the box.

Ala'a 2What are you working on right now?

At the moment we’re working hard to increase Allure Body Bar’s brand awareness across Ontario. We’re also always making sure our staff is well trained and have a passion for what they do. I believe in quality not quantity. What we have going on at Allure Body Bar is fantastic and I just want to share it with everyone who’s had a bad experience getting a wax.

What do you first notice about a guy?

A sense of humour and respectful manners towards women, like holding the doors open and allowing his lady to enter first. That’s exactly what I first noticed about my husband.

What gets you interested?

A man that has set goals that he is working towards with directions to get there.

What keeps you interested?

A great conversation and trying out new things in life is important for me. As much as I love planning, there is a side of me that loves spontaneous things such as last minute trips or new twists to my plans. It’s nice to be with a guy who has these qualities because it really keeps things interesting.

What’s your number one deal breaker (either on first meeting or in a relationship)?

A man with a big ego or who keeps talking about himself and his monetary assets are no no’s in my book. Being humble is very important, money comes and goes. Life’s to short to get caught up in that stuff.

To stay in shape, what’s your basic diet look like?

Having a busy lifestyle, it’s hard to keep on track of a diet but I like to keep things in moderation. My diet has lots of meats, lentils and vegetables at least a few times a week. The good thing is that I don’t have a sweet tooth so that helps a little.

Ala'a 4What sort of fitness plan, if any, do you follow?

Having such a physically demanding career it is really important for me to workout. I train twice a week with a personal trainer who helps me stay on top of my health. If it’s a good week I end up working out 4-5 times a week.

What’s next for you? What’s your next big idea or project?

There are a lot of areas within my business that I always keep myself busy with and have plans for in the future. It’s really nice to see my business grow with my vision. I believe in having realistic goals in life and I like to focus on one project at time. I like to do one thing at a time and do it well.

Favourite workout tip: Squeeze that ass! (quoted by my trainer) to get that nice apple bottom you have to squeeze those bum cheeks.

Favourite recipe: I love it when my man cooks for me!

iPhone or Android: I’m a Mac girl.. iPhone for life!

One thing guys should know when talking to a lady: Always treat her with respect and keep your phone on silent or away when you’re with her.
