If you combine brains and beauty in a total package, you’ll get a decent sampling of the type of woman that usually graces the pages of celebrity and fashion magazines. But when you mix that into an individual who brings her dedication to not one, but THREE high-demand careers at the same time, you get the powerhouse that is Alex Cane. So you know when it comes to success — whether it be in fitness, dating, or career — when Alex has something to say about reaching your goals, you’d better pay attention.
Set goals for yourself, work hard, and over time you will reap the benefits from all you invested.
Occupation: Nurse and model (fitness, swimsuit, and glamour)
Education: BScN
Despite working full time at a hospital, I have managed to juggle a very busy yet exciting schedule over the last eight months. When not working or at the gym I have been travelling and shooting with some huge photographers in North America, modelled at the Over-Exposed Show, competed in bikini in the WBFF, was a Miami Playboy Golf girl, ambassador for Playboy Shoot the Centerfold Miami, and I worked the Advanced Muscle Science booth at The Arnold Expo in Ohio. It is a very exciting year for me thus far and I am so incredibly lucky to have had such amazing opportunities come my way.
How did you get started on your current career track?
I have always been in decently good shape even since high school. I used to work out for cheerleading and do crunches on my bed most nights of the week. I did my first photo shoot for fun, and very soon after I was contacted by some well know photographers in the Toronto area. I was encouraged by some photographers to compete, so I decided to go for it!
I like to pay people compliments when I feel they are warranted. I really enjoy when others, especially higher calibre models, photographers, and athletes pay me compliments.
What motivates or inspires you in your work?
I love what I do. I love seeing results of working hard and I especially love when I can inspire others. Jamie Eason and Monica Brant are such huge contrapositions and inspirations in the fitness world. In terms of glam, I just love the work of Brigitte Bardot.
Do you have a personal work philosophy?
That’s ILL: Imagine it, Live it, Love it.
If you weren’t doing this, what could you see yourself doing?
I can’t picture doing anything else right now – love it!
What are you working on right now?
I am currently training for my fitness competition in Quebec April 28th for the WBFF and working on my website so stay tuned
What do you first notice about a guy?
Muscles! I think a guy that takes care of his body and stays physically active is very sexy.
What gets you interested?
I like a guy that has something to talk about, and although I do like a physically fit guy that’s not all I want to hear about. I like to talk to someone that has some education behind him and has aspirations.
What keeps you interested?
A guy that keeps things exciting! As much as I like to stay in sometimes I also enjoy getting out and going places (anywhere from conversation area to somewhere I need to take a car, train, or plane to get to). Date nights are important and I like to do things beyond the typical drinks, dinner, or movie theatre rendezvous.
What’s your number one deal breaker?
On First Meeting: Disrespect. If you can’t respect me off the bat it’s not going to workout in the long run.
In a Relationship: Cheating.
Turn-ons:
Sense of humour, confidence, physical fitness, and sexy cologne (eg. L’Homme by YSL…oh yeah!). I like look good for my guy and want him to turn me on right back.
Turn-offs:
Unhealthy lifestyle/diet, poor hygiene, lack of direction, and guys that live with mom and dad. Can you picture dating someone and having their parents walk in during an intimate moment? I certainly can’t. I am also pretty healthy, so it would be difficult for me to date someone that doesn’t exercise and is constantly eating fast food.
To stay in shape, what’s your basic diet look like?
I “eat clean” when I am training for a competition and make a lot of my food from scratch. I also stick to only complex carbs when I am training….except of course on “cheat days”.
What sort of fitness plan do you follow?
I workout four to five days a week depending on my schedule for the week. I like to focus on muscle groups when I work out, so one day will be a cardio day, the second day will be an upper body day, and the third will be a leg day. I like to give my body rest and repair days to keep my energy levels up and prevent injury.
What’s next for you? What’s your next big idea or project?
Playboy Golf Finals in LA at the end of March (http://www.playboygolf.com/) followed by my first fitness competition of the year with the WBFF in Gatineau, Quebec April 28th, 2012 (http://wbffshows.com/events/2012-wbff-quebec-championship/)
Favourite workout tip: Switch it up! A lot of people fall into the habit of the old routine, and as a result they tend to plateau and often get bored. Look up new exercises, get into a class, or join a team to turn the same old boring routine into a new challenge. Take the “work” out of working out and have fun!
iPhone or Android: I have tried both and definitely LOVE the iPhone 4s. Siri is my personal assistant! Ask her what I have scheduled for today, she can tell you better than I can most days.
One thing guys should know when talking to a beautiful woman:
If you are going to compliment her, don’t stick to the generic “hot and sexy” comments…she likely knows that already. A better approach is to compliment her on something like her hair or outfit.
I am a farm girl. I grew up on a hobby farm with my four sisters. My “pipes” originated from lifting hay bails.
