Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Sarah B?langer is a swimwear model and brand ambassador for Akela Surf, Pop Headwear and Da Costa Jewelry. Sarah started modeling after she won a model search TV contest, and her resume includes modeling for Pajar Canada, Empire Clothing, Amnesia, Aqua di Lara and Gform, just to name a few. She may not have the standard height for a runway model, but her personality, ambition and determination got her this far, and she isn’t looking back!
Name: Sarah B?langer
Occupation: Model and Model manager at Vizage Models Management Agency.
I fell in love with fashion and photography at a very young age. As a child, my mom would take me to auditions for model kids, and at age 12, I was signed by a model agency. It worked out well for a while, until I got older and couldn?t compete with the other girls my age because I?didn’t?have the standard height for?professional modeling.
Skip forward years later, I entered a TV contest for model search?and I won! This opened doors for my professional modeling career, to a certain extend, since I was shorter?than?the average top models. Again, I had to break some walls?to get to where I am today, but the reward is priceless.
What gives you the most satisfaction in your work / as a model?
Well, seeing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is definitely one of my most gratifying moment. One day, I was driving down the highway in Montreal, Canada, and I saw my picture on a billboard, from a shooting I had done a few months before. That billboard is also in Europe, and until this day, every time I drive by it, I?can’t?get over how grateful I am that I have finally reached?one of my dearest goals. So proud!
Putting effort into my work is what motivates me most. Nothing comes easy and?we’ve?got to come through. Every day is different and each contract we sign?presents different challenges. But what really inspires me is meeting all those beautiful, ambitious, powerful and successful women, from everywhere in the world. These women inspire me to move forward and outdo myself.
Always do your best, and take every opportunity you can get, even if they don’t seem too promising at first sight. You never know where it can lead you! We only have one life to live, so we should do what we love and what makes us happy.
If you weren’t doing this, what could you see yourself doing?
Well since I love challenges, and I hate being stuck in a routine, if I wasn’t modelling or managing I?d be a police officer.
My model agency, Vizage Models, is expanding every year and so is our customers? list, so I have to extend my team consequently. I?m currently working on getting a partner to help me with the agency. We have lots of great projects that I can?t discuss at the moment, but what I know is that we want to diversify our models and open doors for petite and plus size models too. Can?t wait to share this with you!
What do you first notice about a guy?
His overall look and his posture.
When he?s into sports and outdoor activities. I also love a man who is smart and who can keep a conversation. The looks are important but I don?t want a man who spends more time?than?me in front of a mirror! Lol
Oh! Also, I?m a ?miss fix it?, so having a ?Mr. Fix it? who is crafty and resourceful is a MUST! I know, I know?I’m?being very demanding when it comes to finding Prince Charming!
What keeps you interested?
Fun life goals and a promising future. Seeking new adventures and challenges.
What’s your number one deal breaker?
Drugs and lies.
Self-confidence, mysterious, gorgeous eyes and physically fit.
Disrespectful, lazy, ignorant, typical douchebag (lol, yes, I said it).
To stay in shape, what’s your basic diet look like?
I don?t follow a diet. I am very lucky to be able to eat whatever I want and never get fat, but I still watch my diet. I?m not a vegan, but my diet is basically fruits, veggies, fish and pastas.
None. I’m always on the run and I do sport whenever I can, such as wakesurf, hiking, running, paddleboard, yoga and snowboard. But my number one sport is surfing. It?s the most challenging sports I know, both physically and mentally, and I try to surf as much as I can.?I’m?open to any sports and trying new?things. Next, I’d like to try kitesurf, mountain bike and rock climbing.
Favourite recipe:?Homemade kale chips. I also love pastas, all kinds, as long as there is garlic!
iPhone or Android??Iphone, iphone, iphone.
One thing guys should know when talking to a beautiful woman:?Look at her in the eyes and pay attention to what she says.
Absolute WORST experience on shoot:?None so far! Lucky me.
I have a collection of shots from all the countries I’ve visited, and I also collect corks, which I want to use in my crazy decoration ideas, one day. But I’ve never actually taken the time to do anything with those corks so they’ve been sitting in a box in my closet for years? but I keep adding up more corks after each bottle of wine I empty out. Who knows!
What’s next for you? What’s your next big idea or project?
These past few months have been busy and lots of opportunities came up. I was invited on a surf trip with WSSM Magazine this summer in California, I?m also attached to a project by the well-known photographer Anthony Turano ?The Stocking Project?, which we will be shooting shortly. I have other projects in development, as I?m working on paving my way into the international market, so I can combine business and leisure.
Parting thoughts:?In addition to everything else, I am also a real-estate investor. I bought my first house at the age of 22 and ever since that day, I kept investing in the market. I always look for new challenges and fascinating projects. That?s what keeps me going! That?s why my new Westfalia will come in handy very soon, as I will go on a quest for some ?new waves? and adventures.
