Working in different media has its advantages. For radio personalities, it’s often a chance to be out there in the public ear, but without having to be in the public eye. Hiding behind a microphone is a great diversionary tactic (says the guy hiding behind his computer screen).
But not so for Mississauga’s Stephanie McKenzie. TheHazeFM.ca’s General Manager and host of Sugar and Spice, Stephanie makes a point of being visible across the media, in print, and in the social media universe, promoting her company and her brand with incredible tenacity. Plus, she’s funny as hell.
Stephanie is also up for a Mississauga Arts Council People’s Choice Award. So do us (and her) a favour and CLICK HERE to cast your vote! (Voting is open until April 1, 2013)
Name: Stephanie “Steviejo” McKenzie
Twitter: @steviejoxo throwing up the peace sign with a big goofy grin 😀
Occupation: General Manager of thehazefm.ca THE VOICE OF MISSISSAUGA
Education: Depends…do pop-ups count? KIDDING…Sheridan College and University of Toronto
Stats: The fact that I say Cool Beans and no one slaps me does give me huge points on the awesome scale.
I also once won a Bubble Gum Bubble Blowing contest in the 5th grade…with ONLY one piece of gum. Is it a coincidence my arch nemesis had gum stuck in her hair for the next hour? YES! TOTAL COINCIDENCE!
How did you get started on your current career track?
Started talking hockey with the owned, and apparently I can sell ice to an Eskimo. Living in Canada and with a few of these snow storms…I did get to try. Actually not true but I CAN just stand at the end of my driveway and within seconds a city plow usually does the work for me (tee hee).
What gives you the most satisfaction as an artist?
Being able to draw a duck and it looking like a duck…oh you mean in my field! Satisfaction comes when my listeners who choose to tune in to my show, tweet or Facebook that it is one day before my show, or on the day of list their activities of the day…which include my show.
What motivates or inspires you in your work?
PASSION! I love what I do and I have never worked a day in my life. I even got the word tattooed onto my body…
…I mean Mom, Dad…it is a rub-on.
Do you have a personal work philosophy?
If you are going to do it, do it right the first time!
If you weren’t doing this, what could you see yourself doing?
Does spending other people’s money have a job title? I guess that means I would be a politician. But I want people to like me, so I would probably write a book. Or BOOKS, plural.
What are you working on right now?
My abs…I always want them to be better.
Oh you mean actually working on, filling out questions for The Man Sphere but if you ask me again in 5 days I might be rebuilding my deck!
What do you first notice about a guy?
What gets you interested?
If they can keep up…I talk a lot of nonsense. I am woman and I have a specific Steffie way. Keep up and you get my attention.
What keeps you interested?
See answer above…OH …if when someone is talking to me and they can manage to stay off of their phone and give me their undivided attention! Hold please, I have a text coming in!
What’s your number one deal breaker?
If they are in a relationship! All this world needs is a bit more RESPECT! Mr and MRS rights are out there but don’t go after someone else’s MR or MRS right
Turn-ons: Light switch
Turn-offs: Light switch
Oh I see the point of these questions (*smartass, ed.). Turn ons: Active; smell (I like the way a guy smells, cologne sometimes is better), spontaneous and adventurous. Turn offs: in a relationship already, smell (for obvious reasons please revert to turn ons for clarification), weird fetishes…THEY ARE JUST FEET!
To stay in shape, what’s your basic diet look like?
GREEN-TEA…the normal way; I drink it. Some people have told me you can introduce it to your body another way (making a weird face now GROSS). I don’t eat after 7, and I tend to avoid carbs (pastas, potatoes). LOVE Meat (steak, fajitas, chicken…PROTEIN)
What sort of fitness plan, if any, do you follow?
I focus on specific muscle groups one day at a time but try to fit in at least 40 minutes of cardio a day.
What’s next for you? What’s your next big idea or project?
I would like to be Queen of the world but I am still wrapping my head around the fascination with Justin Bieber. Back into the modeling; being 30 this year I want to prove us old broads still got it! (yeah, kidding. But more pics to put up!)
I am all about risk and have actually come up with a true definition:
Definition of risk: Already laying in bed ready to sleep but knowing u have to pee…and closing your eyes anyway.
Favourite workout tip: Make it count; no one is going to do it for you! Not a tip so much as a stop complaining about your physique with a bag of chips in your hand.
Favourite recipe: Cheese
iPhone or Android: Neither…nor Blackberry. Being accessible never lets you get anything done…but fine, if an answer is a must, Android
What are you driving: A cherry black Ferrari 458 Spider…oh you mean what I actually own a Chevrolet Cobalt…BUT ITS STICK!!! I hope I earn some points back because it is at least standard.
One thing guys should know when talking to a beautiful woman: DON’T TELL HER SHE IS BEAUTIFUL! Be more specific, be original! Pick her eyes? Compliment on color or eyelashes. Women LOVE when you compliment them on their eyelashes!
Absolute WORST experience on set/shoot: For a clothing line I sat down on top of the what I thought was a cooler. Oh it was a cooler…but I fell into the ice.
One quirky thing about you that never turns up in interviews:
Everything with me eventually comes out…ummm, I lick the frosting off of Frosted Mini Wheats and then put them back in the box. Now if you didn’t know that before and just thought, “I have had Mini Wheats at her house, but not frosted”….well they once were!
